1. As a Mexican I am sick and tired of you Gringos sneaking into Mexico and expecting to find an apartment or buy insurance. I bet you lazy American won't even bother to learn Spanish while visiting our great country. Go home and keep your problems in the US instead of bringing US crime to Mexico.
2. The legal age in Mexico is 18, but to rent an apartment you will likely need a guarantor. You can buy an insurance at any age. Good luck
3. I’m sorry for my “paisano”, he is not being very nice to North American people. I’m agree about the speaking matter, American people should try to learn Spanish, but we do not have to generalize because lot of Americans are really a good Spanish speakers. Answering you question, well you need to be 18 years old to be able to rent an apartment, but it wont be that easy because you need a financial, (a person that need to proved that owns a property). If you know some one who can help you. You can rent a apartment here in Mexico.
4. Totally agree with NUNE, but not all the times you need someone to suport your financial status, some places ask to give as a deposit 3 or 4 rentals in advance just to cover any lack of payment
