How do I get my rental house to qualify for section 8 housing?
I have a rental house and know someone that has qualified for section 8 housing - what do I need to do so that my house will qualify for these renters?

- contact section 8, they will give you a pamphlet and some paperwork to qualify.
- They have requirements that are pretty typical but also some detailed ones. For instance, at one time when we had a rental house we had a window without a screen and even that had to be fixed to qualify! Best of luck on getting qualified. They are lucky to have you willing to do what it takes to get qualified!
- mostly they look for basic stuff like locks on every door, screens on the windows, working oven, no leaks in kitchen or bathrooms, replace the battery in your fire alarms around the house, put everywhere new bulbs, clean floors.no more then regular tenants will look in the apartment. they also will reinspect the property every year to make sure everything is in working order.
- you should check with the local section 8 office but you must make sure your house is in move in condition and that you have working smoke detectors, windows that open & close, carpet in decent condition, doors that seal correctly, all your appliances work, nothing is in disrepair ... you may also check on line with the HUD website.
- Contact the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for your county. You can find it in the government pages in the phone book, or do an online search and it should come up.
- You would have to go to the Department of housing and they can tell what procedures that you are going to do. You might want to check with your village or town office and they can tell who you can contact.
