What's your opinion about employment agencies?

With my experiences with the 4, now 2, (soon to be none) employment agencies in my area, I feel like they are crap, in experience they don't help and/or very limited to what they can do. I get more offers from the want ads than these supposed employment agencies. What do you think?

  1. First of all, don't ever pay someone to help you find a job. Most agencies are looking to stick you somewhere quickly and could care less if it is a good fit or not. You are better off working through friends to network. Also, take a week and create a resume, one-page biography and summary of your professional achievements, and post them on as many job websites as you can find (like yahoo jobs, monster...). Most companies and recruiters look to these and will find you if it is a good fit. Let them do the work and determine a fit, and you will sit back and get calls. Most of all, don't give up hope.
  2. It depends on your experience and if you ever held a job at least a year or more before you lost it. If you never had a job and you are looking for something that is entry level in the office, then they won't find you a job. If you lost your job, then they will possibly send you to projects. It isn't all the time they have work. So, if you are not getting calls maybe you lack experience. Clerical positions became the administrative assistant duties. You need to continue searching. They rarely help people find jobs.
