How to find a career counselor with IT knowledge who isn't affiliated with a school?

I know that plenty of schools have a career department with counselors that specialize in helping students with their careers but I am looking for a counselor who is not affiliated with a school who has knowledge of Information Technology.. I need help with picking the right school and certifications and don't want to talk to anyone affiliated with an organization or institution. Is it possible to get help outside of a school for an IT career?
