What is the career path to becoming a physician's assistant (PA)?

I was just wondering if someone could outline for me the educational requirements necessary before a person can become a licensed PA. Also, for you PA's out there, how satisfied are you with your job? Also, does one have to go to med school or are can you get such a degree from a normal university? I always appreciate useful links.
