  1. There are too many exceptions to the "do not call" list. Charities or anyone you have done business with can still call you. There isn't much you can do about it.
  2. FYI The lists expire every 5 years.
  3. Call your state's Attorney General Office.
  4. do like I do and have an answering machine screen ALL your calls - Telemarketers all hang up or if they don't I can tell if they are TM's and I don't answer the phone - I even unplugged my phone and just put the phone line in the ans mach. My greeting message even warns them that I screen my calls
  5. check in the beginning of your phone book, you can call trace and the report goes right to the police station and they take care of it.
  6. ive worked with telemarketing for 4 consecutive summers. heres your answer: they're still calling you because you said it was ok to. sure, you might not have sent them a letter or staked outside of their headquarters begging them to call and solicite your business, but come on- where do you think they get your numbers? there's no magical telemarketing fairy that leaves them under the CEO's pillows... Ever sign up to win a free car at the mall? Ever rent a movie from blockbuster? Ever been so anxious to imagine yourself on a cruise in the carribbean that you dont bother to check out the small print at the bottom of the registry card? well it's all there, black and white, plain and simple. your signature is written consent for the company offering you an '08 audi to call you and let you know you've won...OR share your number with one of its SEVERAL affilliates. Example: Blockbuster and MCI are affilliates. That's why when you're popping in the latest johnny depp, Sue from MCI calls and wants to give you an unlimited long distance calling plan. how do you stop it? its simple. dont scream. dont yell. dont try to outsmart them. dont threaten that you're going to hunt them down and kill their mothers (i've heard it all)-because they WILL call back! just simply say- "I need you to completely remove me from your database." or something of equal calibre. They'll read you some cheesey scripted legal ass-saver and it will be over and life will continue. dont just hang up- they'll call back! telemarketers get such a bad rep- is it really that big of a deal to say "no thanks and take me off your list please"?? it's nothing personal, everyone's got to make a living, and telephone-marketing wouldn't still exist if it werent effective. lighten up guys. if an annoying phone call is the worst part of your day, step back and thank the good lord for it.
