How do telemarketers know who is on the do-not-call list and who isn't?
I was thinking of starting a part-time home based business that requires cold calling of potential customers. How do I know if they are on the do not call list?

- i suppose you won't be able to get their number if they're on the dnc list. good luck, but don't call me at dinner time ok?
- You need to sign up for the national do-not-call list listings. It's free for up to 5 area codes and $62 for each additional area code so if your business is local, it's not a big expense.
- I always thought it would have been cheaper to have a "do call" list. You put your phone number on it if you want to be called. Both numbers would be called a lot though.
- There are different registries in different countries, e.g. US: National Do Not Call Registry: https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx UK: Telephone Preference Service: http://mpsonline.org.uk/tps/ In Europe, it is increasingly a criminal offence to call people on the Do Not Call lists. Indeed, the legislation is much stricter than the anti-SPAM legislation. Technically, you cannot even call a customer if they have registered.
