Do websites like Yahoo Hot Jobs, Monster, or Career Builder actually work to find you a job?

I just graduated from college with a B.B.A. in General Business and I'm looking to find a professional job. I know it's gonna be tough with the bad job market right now, but I was told that websites like Yahoo Hot Jobs, Career Builder, and Monster really are not that great to find a professional job. Is this true? I was told that from these kind of websites, you'll get phone calls from companies that'll offer you sales jobs with a high turnover rate or from lame temp agencies that'll find you jobs making $13 or $14 an hour.

  1. I think they're good. I haven't heard those negative things about them. I do see a lot of spam on their websites, though. Just don't give your resume out to anyone. Try also networking in your local area. Times are tough for everyone, even with your choice of major. You may have to settle for a job with crappy pay at first- but in time, this will get better. Everyone starts off low unless they get really lucky. I know most shudder at the thought, but internships are also a great way to get your skills out there and in the open. If you don't end up working for the company you interned for, the one you get hired at will recognize this as a positive move towards your career and will be more likely to hire you.
