As the jobs have dried up, have illegal aliens trekked back to Mexico?
An argument in defense of illegal aliens is that there is a natural cap on such illegal immigration because those people are here to work. Therefore, when the jobs dry up the flow will logically stop/slow down. With the current recession, is there any measure of whether this is actually happening? I live in an area with a high concentration of illegal aliens and, at a minimum, anectdotal evidence suggests the newly-unemployed illegals are sticking around.

- nope , i think there's still hope for them, they heard obama is going to build streets and bridges and they are needed !
- They will not return to Mexico, They will still be able to obtain employment because they are willing to except much lower wages, And live in sub human dwellings.
- We can only hope! But, Im still there are plenty of crooked employers that will hire them so they can get our of paying U.S. citizens livable wages. The illegals should be deported and the employers fined/jailed.
- No. They are still doing work we don't want to do. Thank God for Mexicans. They are here for good, because they are able to subsist on very little. We should only ship back those that disrupt society.
- Have you looked in front of home depot recently???? They arent going anywhere until the new "shamnesty" is killed again... Then they will go.
- Well SIR, Not only Mexico but to other countries. But I have no link that supports my statement. Therefor the world may never know. lol
- First of all, how do you know who's illegally in the country or not? That's the biggest false assumption that most Americans make. They see a group of Hispanics, and then automatically assume that they are illegally in the country. The recession is keeping immigrants from coming over and the immigration crackdown is scarring a lot back to their home countries, but that's only hurting us! WHY? because the jobs they are leaving behind, aren't getting filled by US Citizens. They don't want these jobs, and that's why we are in a Farm Labor Crisis. Unemployed illegals stick around to only look for other work....ANY WORK they can get and any pay. They would rather do that, then to stand by a freeway with a little pathetic sign. http://www.saveusfarms.org/ FARM LABOR CRISIS
- Some might, but not all. After all even with the economy the way it is right now,it's still way better in the US.
- Only to a very minor extent. A few with ties in Tamulipas, Chihuahua, NL, etc may drift back simply because geography makes it easy, but only until things get better here. I also live in a 'high concentration' area AND work in an industry (commercial construction) heavily staffed w/illegals. I believe very few have gone back. Most that I talk to say that it is better here than "back home" even if they are out of work for weeks at a time. There are just too many ways for them to get by here as opposed to Mexico/El Salvador/Honduras.... There might someday be a slight slowdown of the inward flow, but many that are here now have put down roots and are not going anywhere. At least not willingly.
