How do you sucessfully search for a new career if you're working full-time?

Other than quitting your current position, calling in sick and/or using vacation or personal days to job hunt/interview, what are some ethical and doable ways to look for a new job or career? I've found a number of positions for which I am qualified. I have my bachelor's degree from a top-tier school, so finding the job isn't really the issue. It's finding the company that will interview or consider me with the crazy schedule I have currently.

I have had good luck just telling prospective employers about my situation. If they are interested, they will often have a first i-view via phone, let you come in on your lunch, or after work.
It's usually easier to find a new job when you already have one. Potential employers understand the problems about getting off for an interview and usually will work around it by making an appointment after hours or on a Saturday. If you are unemployed they may want to know why you are out of work and could suspect a problem with you. Check out the local papers for job opportunities and on-line job banks. If you plan to take courses, most schools have Saturday, evening or computer courses. Stay away from employment agencies if possible. No matter what they tell you, they are more interested in placing you in a temporary position so they can get part of your hourly wage on a regular basis. If they find you a full-time position, they only get a one-time fee. If you go to one make sure you check out the fine print on any contracts they have. If they put you in a temporary position, they may have a requirement that you work a set number of hours before that company can hire you full time. Been there...done it.
