does a lawsuit affect low income housing?

I live in a low income apt complex in NJ.My rent is 100% subsidized by government because im disabled. I am about to settle a workers comp claim which i will get about 5000.00. Will that cause me to lose the subsidy because they consider it income? I really need to know because now im worried. It seems like alot, but most of it will be gone to pay bills and medicines. This is in NJ.

  1. You need to ask your worker.
  2. Money that you get from worker comp is not taxable income , meaning that if you did have to file income taxes that you would not have to claim that amount that was given to you in a Workman's compensation lawsuit. I don't see that they could consider it a form of income it is a one shot deal not an ongoing payment situation. If the amount is $5,000 .00 that is nothing in the toady's money terms I hope that you are not settling for this piddly amount for your debilitating condition. ( the reason I ask about the amount is you have 2 sets of decimal points and I was unsure if it is 500,000 congrats!)
  3. It is considered income. It won't change your housing subsidy because it is not big enuf to affect the limits..
