Things to consider when buying used car audio off of Craigslist?
Im in need of new subs because i blew my two twelves. I had them hooked up to a 600w 4 channel sony xplod amp. I definalty want to upgrade to a higher watt amp. So pretty much all i have is a sub box for two twelves, and a wireing kit for the amp. Im looking at this ad http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ele/1025024424.html Can any tell me what i need to consider when buying used equipment and if this is a good set up or can some one suggest a add posted on Orange County Craiglist for me. - first and foremost is it in working condition and is it what was advertised
- Of course condition...working functionality....cosmetics....is it worth the money? etc... Now the problem here is you're looking at two 10" subs...not 12's...so your box is useless unless you modify it to house 10's...IE: putting a different face plate on the box or something. Other than that look at the type of specs these subs need for power, and how much it cost to get a new amp. Then consider if you can afford to buy the subs and the amp to power them.
- OK, First and foremost about buying used audio equipment from people, especially off of craigslist and other sites, is to make sure it IS working, and working the way it should BEFORE you even think about pulling the money out.If people are trying to sell car audio equipment, 90 percent of them have had it hooked up before, So for me the first thing I would tell them to hook it up and show me it working, most of them probably still have it in there car for you to hear but some dont. If all is in said working condition, then they should have no problem doing this for you to see that its all good. If they have a problem with that AT ALL, stay clear and dont even keep talking to them. Chances are its either stolen or blown out. A good rule of thumb to use about car audio is YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, and that IF A DEAL IS TOO GOOD TO PASS UP, THEN THERES USUALLY SOMETING WRONG. Just use your head and you will be fine.
