How to soundproof an apartment for a party?

Hi! I have this party coming up in a day and i have a friend's apartment as the venue. The issue with the whole plan is that his grandparents live upstairs and it isn't cool if they get to know that people downstairs are listening to loud music. I've read a lot of soundproofing techniques online but most of them involve either recreating your wall or buying soundproofing equipment. I don't have the money nor the time for the latter and need some simple remedies to the problem. I was thinking of using thermacol to may be block the gaps between the doors and the floor. Any suggestions are welcome. P.S. The speakers are right next to the apartments door. (Very Urgent, the party is tomorrow!)

  1. You don't. That's the downside to apartments, you can't always do what you want because you will bother your neighbors. Don't play the music so loud. I've lived in several apartments and there is really no way around it, you're either quiet or loud and nothing you can buy or do to the apartment is going to mask the sound of a loud party.
  2. There is no real way to soundproof the apartment. If the speakers are right by the door, and the grandparents are on the floor above, there isn't anything temporary that you can do to alter the sound transfer. The only thing you can do is control the music volume or if that's not an option, come to terms that you will wake up the folks above and think of a good excuse. The quick and easy sound proofing techniques that you read about is not enough to get your party unnoticed.
  3. you need to get crackin! drive to all your local grocery stores. tell them you need all the cartons they use that oranges, apples, tomatoes and things like that arrive in. they're kind of like egg cartons, but bigger (and FREE) tack them up on your wall checkerboard style. try to double it up too...where the borders meet so it overlaps. good luck and hope your party rocks. chug one for me!
