What is a practical career choice for someone about to graduate high school who is having a baby?
It has always been my dream to be a lawyer, but now that I am pregnant i've realized that becoming a lawyer is going to be completely impractical. I've always put my expectation very high for myself, and even though i'm having a baby at a young age, I still believe I can be very successful in life. Can someone please tell me what a reliable career choice would be for my situation? A career that maybe would not require any internships or a career that I would be able to get right after college?

- engineering ! anytype of engineering .. or an architect .. both jobs will be needed, even in the economy
- Something in the medical field such as a nurse who takes care of babies? I'm sure the experience will help you along.
- If you have the family support, then going to law school could be possible. Difficult but possible. Computer science is also something that would be a good choice and being female in a traditionally male dominated field would put you at an advantage. Unfortunately, internships would be beneficial in this field. It may not be required but would be a great way to gain experience before actually getting into the workforce. Additionally, you could find jobs with the federal government (http://www.usajobs.gov/). Nursing is also something sensible and you could make pretty good money. Also consider becoming a teacher. The pay may not be great but it is something that you could do right after finishing college. If you don't want to consider going on to graduate school then I would recommend that you stay away from the life and physical sciences (biology, ecology, wildlife biology, env. and natural resources, chemistry, and physics).
