  1. For a young person looking for a job without any experience, advertising on Craigslist is a waste of time. The kind of jobs you are likely to be able to get (in stores and fast food restaurants) don't hire that way. All you have to offer an employer right now is yourself. You need to impress the manager that you are serious minded and responsible about doing a good job, and that you can dress and look the way their other employees do. In other words, the employer wants to see you and talk with you in person. If you are just some anonymous poster on Craigslist, you don't get a chance to make a good impression. Meanwhile, there will be some other kid who walks in the door--someone the manager can size up right away. Who do you think is likely to get the job, the person they can see, or the person they can't? Bottom line: start going to stores and other places and ask for the manager. It's hard, and you will get turned down ten times (or 50) before you find anything, but it is the only way. If you had some special skill that a business needed, then a Craigslist ad might make sense. But of course, in that case you wouldn't need to ask people here what the ad should say. All you have is your smile and your willingness to work hard. Let the employer see those things. Good luck!!
