Is an apartment complex allowed to turn off your water without notification?

I live in Texas. I don't know if they are working on the pipes on the property or what but we have no water in my apartment and I have a 6 month old infant with me. We did not receive any type of notice or warning that the water would be off. Is that legal? Is there someone I could report this too?

  1. I dont think the apartment complex controls the water, even in Texas.
  2. Call the landlord. Or, call the water utility. It might be a break, these things happen.
  3. Did you bother to find out if there was perhaps a broken pipe? How can they give you notice if a car slams into a fire hydrant or something and cuts off the water?
  4. To my knowledge, it is illegal to shut off a service without proper notification. (Usually a minimum of 3 days) Call your city hall and check with them. You may also want to seek an attorney.
  5. That happened to me once or twice, but it was because of a main breaking and needing repair. They couldn't give us notice, because they didn't know the main was going to decide to break. Is it just your apartment, or the building, or the whole complex? Have you asked the apartment office about it?
  6. Id find out the cause first and see how long it is off. I think you can report them to the housing authorities (court house) if it stays off long or excessive amount of time. Sometimes it is beyond their control like a main breaking or temp. quick fix.
  7. texas thats illegal how dare u
  8. What makes you think it's the apartment complex? Perhaps before you start asking if it's legal or not you contact the building superintendant and ask what's going on.
