Is there a progressive city in Florida, near a beach, that has affordable housing but isn't heavily populated?

I am thinking of relocating from NYC to Florida, but only if I can find a progressive city that has some beach front but isn't heavily populated. Are there any cities in Florida like that? Definitely not looking for conservative, Republican areas.

  1. Can I address your last comment first. I am a liberal as you appear to be. But who the heck cares about the political affiliation of their neighbors? I sure as heck don't. Florida is dirt cheap to buy right now. Their real estate has dropped more than 90% of the rest of the country. There are fantastic buys all around. If I were to move to Florida, I would pick somewhere around Clearwater, Sarasota, or Miami Beach (South Beach)
  2. I respectfully disagree.... While there may more reasonable prices in Florida right now, beach front is no bargain. Never forget that there are still some folks that have money for water property.
