Anyone know of any sites to rent houses without a realtor?

I live in Sacramento CA. Does anyone know of either any place you can find homes to rent that aren't through a realtor or a realtor that can work with bad credit? I've tried Craigslist and the newspaper.

1. I know of no good website for rentals that is kept up to date. Most people that are renting out their own houses stick a sign in the yard and they may or may not run an ad in the newspaper. You better just drive around and look for signs.
2. craigslist and the local newspaper are your best options. They are very widely used by owners. Also see any local weekly paper. However, renting houses are far more likely to be handled by realtors. Renting a house is also far more expensive than renting an apartment, and landlords as well as realtors are far more likely to check credit and references because they are so much more expensive. With a house, you have to maintain the property inside and out, pay all utilities (water, sewer, trash, etc, in addition to the usual electric, gas, cable, etc). So don't count on finding a house where bad credit will fly. And if your credit is bad, how are you going to deal with putting all the utility accounts in your name? If your credit is bad, you could have to put down a whopping great deposit for each utility account. If credit is poor and money tight, rethink getting a house.
