Why are people so trusting on Craigslist when buying a car?

I've been looking for a car on Craigslist, most of them now say clean carfax but when you ask them for the report you never hear back or they give you some BS about not being able to share the carfax.

2. im trying 2 buy a car on craigslist 2 but i get a lot of flakers. probably cuz its cheaper than going 2 a dealership who just makes it look nicer. ive heard that buying from a dealership is WORSE than a private seller since they cut corners. you just have 2 shop around and act fast. remember money talks. what ive been doing is getting the VIN and carfaxing. and ask them if i can bring it 2 my mechanic. if they say no i move on cuz if they have nothing 2 hide they would let me. and carfax doesnt tell you everytihng. it only shows REPORTED accidents. hope thsi helps
3. People are trusting because they don't know any better. If you want to find a good car take the steps that YOU are responsible for and don't leave it up to the seller. If you want a carfax report for a vehicle that interests you...pay for one. Not sure about the mechanical condition of it either...take it to a trusted source and pay for an inspection. The seller is not obligated to do either of these things for you. It is up to you to cover your own butt. Most of the horror stories you hear about buying from a private seller can be traced back to the fact that the person was too CHEAP to take the necessary precautions. I have no sympathy for people like that. If you want the best car for the best price, go to a reputable dealer.
