What benefits everybody in the country more; government jobs or private sector jobs?

Private sector companies pay for government jobs through taxes. If they didn't have to pay as much in taxes, they could hire more employees and produce more products and charge less for them. More products costing less means we could all afford to have more. Isn't that the definition of wealth? The more government jobs there are, the less wealth we all have. Unless you can name a government job that produces a product . . . waiting . . .

  1. Both of them combined. "The more government jobs there are, the less wealth we all have." That doesn't make any sense. That's like saying the more food you buy, the less you will have to eat. "Unless you can name a government job that produces a product . . ." Building parks, bridges, and public property. There's a product for you. No, nvm, that's THREE products for you.
  2. Government jobs are linear...they pay more but employ less and offer very little in producing subsequent jobs based upon those created. As far as the above food metaphor above, I'd include parcel size for producing food -- the government's are overpriced and finite -- the free-market's parcels cost less and are near infinite. "Building parks, bridges, and public property" Of which the free-market can do more efficiently and more cost effective. There are already privatized roads and bridges that are better quality and maintained more effectively. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_road http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_highway As for the tolls -- you pay them already when you fill up your gas tank, pay for you car registration, etc. etc..
  3. It seems to me that this administration is most interested in increasing govt. power and decreasing our wealth. "Spread the wealth"!
  4. You are correct. Government jobs are not what runs this nation, it is the private sector. Government doesn't create anything and they are inefficient. The key is like you said, lower taxes on corporations and small businesses. Seems that many people don't understand the fact that companies don't pay the taxes that are increased on them, the consumer does. Tax goes up, price of product goes up. Then if government steps in to freeze the price a company can charge, while increasing the taxes, the company will lay off people to make up the difference. Higher taxes is the reason why companies are leaving this country and going to lower corporate tax rate countries. It's not hard to see.
  5. I have a friend who has a government job.... He has to fill out a hand written multiple page form, get his boss to approve it, his boss sends it off to get another approval, and 3-5 months later he gets his....box of staples. The less government the better.
  6. the private sector is much more beneficial for the economy .. the reason we have entered a recession is because the government stuck its greedy hands into the private businesses and banks.. trivia time: this government entity/job has consistently NEVER been profitable and is losing money every single year.. but the govt continues to pay the employees high dollars and let the tax payers cover their losses... ANSWER = government mail - post offices -
  7. There are lots of government jobs that though they might not produce a product are completely necessary. The Army, police, fire fighters, post office, teachers (though they produce the ability of the next generation to exist in the world). Are some government jobs silly? Sure but not all of them are evil. For all the talk about how great the free market is it seems that all these companies are always looking for a break of some kind. If you can't pay your taxes and expand your company then your company isn't doing well enough to be able to expand.
