How can I come up with jobs for my Aussie living in an apartment?
My wife and I live in an apartment have a toy Australian Shepherd who is a great dog, but tends to get stir crazy when we're gone. He's taken to dragging things out of cabinets or piling up our shoes. Ideally he could play outside and chase bugs or what have you, but we have no yard. He gets plenty of exercise, he just needs something to occupy his mind for the 2-3 hours one of us isn't home. Any suggestions?

- You could take him to daycare once or twice a week.
- Crate him when you're not home until he earns the freedom of the house by behaving when you're not there.
- Try one of the toys that holds treats and makes your dog work to get them out. You could stuff a Kong with treats (and possible freeze it to make them hard to get out) or get one of the toys that screws together that has a small hole where treats can fall out as your dog rolls it around. They even make toy dispensers that you can put up on a high shelf that will drop a toy out at a specified time, so it is something new and the dog does finish all the treats in 20 minutes and still have 2 1/2 hours to be bored. Good luck.
- I like the personality of a australian shepherd. They are so sweet.
