- G'day Mark I have another suggestion for you. Sponsorship can be a complex and fairly expensive process for an employer, particularly if it's only a small 2 or 3 man business. Many who may be prepared to employ someone from overseas who has an appropriate work visa, will not be prepared to take the additional step to sponsor them. From your own point of view, if you accept sponsorship, you're virtually stuck with that employer for a couple of years even if you hate working there. As an electrician, you should be able to get a permanent visa without too much trouble. If you want it very quickly, you should also have little trouble getting State Government sponsorship (every state wants electricians) and your application should then be processed within a few months. Once you have a permanent visa or are well on the way to one, you will have little trouble finding work before you arrive in Australia. Demand for electricians is already high and actually looks like growing through a combination of our first home buyers grants, our $42 billion stimulus package (heaps of construction in that) which passed the Senate yesterday and the rebuilding that must inevitably follow our recent (and sadly continuing), natural disasters.
