Can I rent an apartment for 3 months?

I'm going to college in the fall so I don't plan on keeping the apartment for more than 3 months. I know that this might conflict with most lease agreements.

  1. You need to find a landlord willing to give you a short term lease...or you can sublet.
  2. look on craigs list. I bet there are many people trying to find someone to sublet their place for 3 months.
  3. It never hurts to ask. there are some that let you rent on a month to month bases.
  4. Get a summer sublet - check the bulletin boards of local colleges.
  5. It is possible that you will be able to find a short term rental. Many apartment complexes where I am will do this, but usually for a minimum of 4 months. And, usually there is an "up charge" to the monthly rental amount. I live in a city with a large student population, so it is possible to find a 3 month rental in the areas that cater mostly to the student population. Maybe a site like Craigs List will offer you some options. In my experience, most private owners (houses, condos, duplexes, etc) want a 12 month lease.
  6. They are hard to find but they are out there. Usually they are less than desirable properties and you will pay a premium for having a shorter term. Its a bad arrangement for the landlord cause its hard to have to continually find new people.
