Associate Degree to become RN vs. BSN?
Can you work in the same departments with an associates degree in nursing as a nurse with a BSN? Are there any restrictions to those with an associates? I do plan on going through a RN to BSN program, but I'm just wondering.. Also as long as you have the prereqs(anatomy, etc.) done in a community college will the University accept a degree from a private school such as Western career college? Thanks! Sorry for all the questions in one.. =]

- My girlfriend is a RN. At the hospital she works at a RN with either degree can work in any department BUT some departments require that you have a certain amount of nursing "experience" so a "new graduate" nurse cannot work in some departments. A BSN is needed if you want to work in other positions such as Nurse Manager, etc. The rules may be different at other hospitals.
- yes. if you have already an ASN-RN, you can go to an RN BSN program. usually ASNs work side by side with BSNs and the pay isnt that different, by maybe a buck or cents more for the BSN. they do the same work practically and there are restrictions with those of an ASN. ASNs can't do management positions or take up high positions than the BSNs. over all BSNs get a better benefit since more oppurtunities come to them. good luck with your endeavors.
