Any good apartment buildings in Los Angeles?

I'm really annoyed & don't understand. I'll be going to college in about another 16 months & I'm already just trying to get as much information as I can get about the surroundings and stuff. Today I was reading about housing & the different apartments and well all the reviews were pretty much bad about everything. From bugs to robbers to breaking things. Could someone please suggest to me a real good apartment. Please :(

1. call the student housing posting board office and call some of the landlords listed .......also call some real estate firms in the area of the college that deal in prop mgt. [I was raised in LA] They are all good or bad depending on what you seek or don't seek
2. When you refer to LA, are you meaning the downtown part of LA, or one of the outlying areas, like the San Fernando Valley ?? It makes a big difference due to the various choices and areas. I would suggest posting your question again with info about what city the college you are interested in is located, so those who can answer will give a more concise answer :}
