what jobs are similar to the air force's pararescueman , in other branches?
i want to be a PJ but i also know a lot people wash out of special forces. So i need a back up job but what they offer aside from special forces doesn't interest me. So my question is, Do the other branches of the military offer anything similar to pararescue?

- Pretty much nothing. They are truly a one-of-a-kind entity.
- Navy SAR swimmer. Search and rescue swimmers are the guys who enter the water from a helicopter, usually, to attempt to rescue people in the water or from a distressed vessel. USCG has them also.
- Para rescue men are NOT Special Forces, they are part of a Special Operations Community. You probably will not make it unless you are extremely fit, the washout rate it high. There is not other job in any other service that is remotely close. Special Forces is a Special Operational Force of the United States Army. Para rescue men are part of the Air Force Special OPERATIONS community. All services Special operations fall under USSOCOM Command. Im sure you would be a good 11b. De Oppresso Liber. To Liberate The Oppressed. The motto of the Special Forces.
- Like others have said, PJ's are one of a kind, and about the closest you could find would be the Navy and Coast Guard rescue swimmers. The Air Force also has Combat Controllers, and TACPs. Those career fields might interest you if you're wanting to get into the down and dirty, but still be part of the Air Force. As someone else mention, but poorly explained, the Air Force does not have Special Forces, rather Special Operations. A PJ may or may not be assigned to a Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) unit. They could also be assigned to an Air Combat Command (ACC) unit, or to a joint unit, like JSOC. Special Forces refers only to the Army's Green Berets, who are operators under the US Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).
