Help!! Craigslist and Western Union Question?

Okay, I went to Chicago craigslist (where I live) and I was selling a Calbo Robelli guitar or something. I got an email from a guy saying that he was very interested in the guitar. I was happy to get the sale of the guitar for $125 so I emailed back. I later found out that he just moved from Chicago to florida and he had a plan. Here is what he said: 1.) I will mail a check for $150 ($125 for the guitar and $25 for handling) 2.) Once you receive the check, you can go and cash the check and get your money (I liked the idea of me cashing the check first) 3.) After you get your money, my mover will go to your residence and pick up the guitar because I just recently moved I saw this plan and did this because I thought that I couldn't lose! So I told him to send out the check and I will be ready to give the guitar to the mover. I got an email just today saying that he sent out the check and his secratary made a mistake (he said he was a buisness person) He said that instead of writing out the check for $150, she accidently wrote it out for $1500. He said that it was a problem that could be easily fixed. He told me that once I recieved the check, go to the bank and cash the check and keep $175. (He gave me a bigger bonus for the hassle) He then said that you should wire the remaining $1325 with Western Union and do the rest as planned. I personally have never used Western Union, I was thinking to myself on how could I lose? He wants me to send the money out to him. I was just curious if anyone could help me what to do! What should I say when I email him back?!? I really don't know how I could lose, but just please help me on what I should say and do. So basically I'm saying: What should I say when I email him back? What should I do about the Western Union situation? I also have a paypal account, but I don't think he does.' I need answers fast!! Thanks you all!

  1. SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anytime a Craiglist responder mentions the words: 'westerm union' or 'paypal' or request for YOUR paypal account address - this guy's scammingm especially if they give you more money than the item is worth....and if its payment by check .....wait til it clears first!!!!! bewfore sending anythin out to the buyer.
  2. Huge scam - even if the check clears for a week, it might come back later as fraud and you might be liable for passing a fraudulent check. Get out this deal ASAP!
