List Only

Are any of the jobs posted on Craig's list legit?

I know it's not the best one, but I have tried monster, hotjobs, careerbuilder, indeed, newhelpwanted, and a few other ones. I have been searching for a job for over a month and haven't been successful. I have office experience and live in Oshkosh, WI. Working from home is not something that would work for me and I don't have the cash for the upfront costs. Thanks for the great answers! And I have polished my resume and I have gone thru a few employment agencies.

  1. Jobs are very scarce right now for everyone. Stay away from Craig's list, most of it is spam, unless you know of the company personally. Register with an employment agency if that will help. Update your resume to bring out your qualities and strengths. Good Luck
  2. As with anything online, you must be extremely cautious about giving personal information to random people or businesses. However, I believe that a good percentage of the job postings are legit, if they list the company in the ad. As an example, a pet food store near us was advertising the need for part time workers. My daughter went into the store to apply and was interviewed for the position. Just be careful.
  3. Any legitimate job should not be asking for fees up front. If you're getting jobs that are asking you to pay up front, then you have jobs that are scamming you. Craigslist can be a very good job posting board, but you really need to keep attuned to those that might be legit or illegit. A suggestion that I have for you, is if a job seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
  4. yes,the majority of them are, just be careful of those asking for personal info before you actually meet.make sure they give a phone number. Then call to make sure that it is legit.
  5. Yes it is legitimate. In Chicago, recruiters generally use it to find candidates for positions. In fact, the position I have now was a response to a Craigslist ad.
  6. I happen to disagree that "most CL.com or NOT legit and to stay away". I happen to post ALL my job listings on there and have found over 200 employees that way in the past 2 years. (In TEXAS it costs 25.00 to post a job ad) And we used to post all the time before hand as well. CL.COM can be a two way street, yes you should be careful and do your homework while you are on the phone with them. Ask them how long they have been in business? Ask them the name of their company? Do they have a website? ETC When someone calls me from a CL.COM ad I always ask them personal questions Such as their full name, phone number, what part of town they live in, their past work experience and even their email address. Sometime I ask for their resume and it gives their personal information of where they live... Might I suggest something in the home health field? I work as a Staffing Facilitator for a non-medical home health care agency, and there are days when I can stay at home and work. Like many have said it is really hard right now to land that perfect job that we all want. But there are plenty of jobs in the healthcare field, especially in the office's of those companies. Google Non medical home health home health agencies and then put near (your zip code) When I could'nt find a job I would pick up a phone book and go to the field i was interested in and just start callilng all of them asking if they were currently hiring. And I awlways found a job that way. It's better to have a job while looking then having no job.
  7. YES. I've had 3 good jobs from that site. You just have to be VERY CAREFUL. Always research the company. Make sure they put a good amount of information about the job and their company. You should be able to research the company online. If not they are fake. Also, and this may seem so simple, but watch out for spelling/grammatical errors. Chances are, if they can't type, the business is not decent.
