How the jobs advertised on craigslist legitimate?

For the first time in my life, I am struggling with finding a job because of the economy. I'm trying to apply for every job out there that I would qualify for, but the jobs on craigslist don't look too legit. I'm reluctant to send my resume with my personal info to people that have regular yahoo and gmail email addresses. Has anyone else applied for a job posted on craigslist? If so, what was the outcome?

  1. It's a very good question, but there's no good answer. I'm sure that some ads on Craigslist are legitimate and some (I'd say, a huge number) are not. How to distinguish? Well, if an ad sounds "funny" to you, skip it.
  2. A lot are fake but some might be real. I would remove all personal information from your resume except for your name and email address. And if they get back to over email and it sounds legit then ask them for a number where you can reach them and a good time to chat. If it still sounds legitimate than you can set up an interview. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If they ask for any personal information off the bat don't give it to them. Try other job sites like monster.com, careerbuilder.com, yahoo's hotjobs, and any industry specific websites or organizations that might have job listings. Good luck.
  3. I have applied to a few, mostly i look for ones that name the place of business or provide a phone number, as far as sending a resume, i email my skills and stuff but not personal info, and that i will provide a resume when they see me for an interview. I haven't gotten one response but also haven't worried about my info getting into the wrong hands. I would also say that any job offer that mentions it originates in a differnt state but says the work is in yours probably should be avoided.
