Tired of Employment Agencies giving you the round around?

Okay, they like my cv, they generally come across nice and pleasant, yet you sense that it's all one big facade, especially when the voice on the other end of the phone is a females. They don't always respond to you emails and it's all you you you making and retuning phone calls. Still no job!!! Tired of employment agencies and their empty promises? Don't you just wish they gave it to us straight? Red 7

  1. You have got to realise they can only offer jobs if they have them on their books! Due to Gordon Brown's incompetence industry is suffering badly and 99% of companies are laying off workers, going on short time and/or not hiring at present. The agencies would dearly love to find you a job as they only earn money when they place people. With Brown hanging on to the death the Government will be paralysed for the next year so things are only going to get worse. Unemployment is predicted to go from 2.2 now to 3.4 million next year!
  2. I gave up on employment agencies long ago, but yes, I do remember feeling very fed up with them, to the point where I wondered how they managed to survive in a world where hardly anybody seemed to land jobs through their efforts. Racking my brains, I can remember two occasions when I did obtain work through an agency and each time it was a total disaster. The first felt like a complete mistake the moment I entered the place on my first day and I was relieved to be able to tell them at the end of my probationary period that I had no wish to stay on. The second one began with all sorts of promises, but the company suddenly went into liquidation and when the agency sent in its bill for my recruitment, I was hustled out within the magic three month period in order to avoid their having to pay the bill. I've never fathomed how they work. You go in and they demand your cv as though it were an admission ticket to some wonderful world of opportunity. And then -- as you say -- nothing. It is emotionally wearing to feel such utter rejection. I do hope you find something soon and that it is the right job for you.
