Apartment rent: if bedroom wardrobe mirror breaks due to wear and tear, who pay for it? renter or the landlord?

Public Comments

  1. Something breaking is not considered normal wear and tear to these people. I actually have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as normal wear and tear. If anything is different than when you moved in, you pay for it.
  2. Something getting broken isn't wear and tear - unless the mirror had a crack in it when you moved in, and the crack has gotten larger or caused the mirror to shatter. Wear and tear would be things like carpets being worn in areas with most traffic, general fading to paintwork, kitchen goods showing signs of being used etc. Presumably you broke the mirror, even if it was just an unfortunate accident. It's up to you to replace it.
  3. I have never seen a mirror break from wear and tear, all you do is look in it. Not taking this any further
  4. Sorry no one is going to side with you on this one. I've seen mirrors 100 years old and they just don't break on their own.
  5. This would be the renter. A mirror would never break due to wear and tear, it would remain intact for thousands of years. It can only be broken by abuse or neglect.
