can car subwoofers/amps work with bass guitars?

i am wondering if i could use a speaker/amp setup meant for a car system to play my bass guitar through. here is the specific system i am wondering about http://austin.craigslist.org/ele/1268767456.html but really i would just like to know in general. also if the amp wouldnt work, would the speakers or if the speakers wouldnt would the amp???
