Is Craigslist okay to use?

I'm looking for an apartment in New York City (I don't currently live there) on Craigslist. What are some things I need to watch out for to avoid being scammed?

1. Simply don't give out personal information and don't give any money until you know you have a legitimate contract and you have read it thoroughly. You probably would be better off by looking on realtor.com or other realtor websites.
2. I have used craigslist to find all kinds of things. however i would always use the buddy system going to do anything. i know one thing. if it sounds to good to be true. 9 out of 10 times it is!!
3. Be careful. Don't go alone, don't provide personal information. Most likely, you'll b spammed to death by stupid emails that have nothing to do with renting a place!
