How long does it take to move up the ranks at a UPS job?
My mom just got a job at a UPS place. She has like no experience and crappy hours and she is currently a package handler. How long will it take her to move up the ranks and get to be one of the people that drives around in the trucks and drops off packages because I hear they make good money. Any information would be great thanks!

- It is determined by a few factors. UPS is a union company that is based on seniority or years of service with UPS. Generally a big center has a shorter waiting period. More routes = more openings. Small centers take longer it also depends on how old the drivers are that are already in those jobs. A bunch of older guys will be retiring making room for new hires... Just remember seniority. Once a job opens they will post a bid sheet that anybody interested in the job can sign. The job will go to the person who has been with the company the longest. I work at a small center <30 routes. I worked part-time in the A.M. loading trucks for 3.5 years. Then somebody retired and i got the job. Some centers the wait is 6 months at a large hub, but most small centers range from 3-12 years...I got lucky. Hang in there though it is a great job with no shortage of hard work, stress, and long hours, but you are compensated WELL for it. I make more doing this than many of the people I went to school with that have degrees. My benefits are better, my job security is stronger, I have more vacation, I stay in shape, I could go on..
