Do people with desk/office jobs in the military have to start off in boot camp doing push ups?
Is it possible to join the military with intentions of only doing desk-work?

- Yep, and yep.
- If you want to be in the military in a non-civilian position you have to go through boot camp.
- Yes. Everybody goes through basic training. Everybody does push ups, sit ups, rifle training, and the like. You can enlist for a clerical MOS (military occupation specialty). You will have to meet regular physical fitness standards.
- There are plenty of admin jobs in each branch, but you MUST go through Basic and AIT like all other enlisted. Throughout your career, you will still be required to do annual field training, going to the range for weapons qualification, and the Physical Fitness test (push ups, sit ups, running), among other physically demanding tasks. If old Army nurses such as myself can meet these expectations each year, you can as well.
- Yes on the push ups. Yes, it's possible - in the Navy or Air Force. Much less likely in the Army, extremely unlikely in the USMC.
- yes its possible to enter doing a desk job but you still have to go through basic training just like everyone else
- The title "soldier" needs to be earned.
- yes, everyone has to go through boot camp
- The military is a uniform group of people that when put together create a military force. i.e. this means no matter who you are or where you work you are instilled with the same background and are obligated to the same codes and standards as everyone else in the military. To do this all members of the military must pass through basic training, which includes but is definitely not limited to an infinite number of pushups. So whether you are sitting on your ass for the rest of your military career or in the brush shooting at people you still go through the same basic training, through the same basic schooling of military history, morals and codes.
