Why do people commonly put down government jobs?

I'm working for the state government (young). I'm doing a Lead programmer analyst position. I'm paid pretty well and they are paying for my Masters. When I tell peopl I work for the government they commonly change face. I'm learing a lot and with everything invluded I"m doing pretty well. What is the discrimination against governement jobs????

1. The government is nobodys friend, for over 10000 years it has been there job to keep people dumb, unedjucated, and occupy their mind with useless prioritys. I wouldn't work for the government because its a personal decision to not help the ones who hurt others, However, go with it. Life is short, make your money and be happy and dont let others opinions put your career at risk. One thing to worry about is with government positions, if they find someone to do your job for less money, they will get rid of you and not think twice about it.
2. I don't have any problems with government employees. I just have problems with some of the government programs and with the wastefull government spending.

4. Could be because the average government workers most people have to deal with just don't seem to care and won't do anything they don't have to do. Many are just big fish in small ponds and like to through around what little power they have. Many seem bitter in my experience.
