List Only

How often do I need to update my phone on the do not call list?

I am recently being inundated with calls from various organizations wanting donations. Are these people exempt from the do not call list? If I need to update, it's been a little over three years since I had our home phone put on the no call list. I did not find a category to post this in that seemed appropriate. I hope that someone will be able to help me here.

  1. Charities are exempt from the Do Not Call list. According to the website, "Your registration will not expire. Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm."
  2. Hi dear. I guess we seniors are a little behind about knowing the answer to your question. I am sorry, hubby keeps changing our phone number and not having it listed in the phone book. That has helped us but you don't want to have to go through all that. He has changed our number so many times I keep forgetting the new number. Poppy
  3. I think it is every five years. DeeJay.
  4. Go to www.donotcall.gov and list UR phone number. If U have already done that, it is now effective FOREVER. It used to be only five years. If U get a new phone number, U will need to go to step one again.
  5. I have hit on a new angle with charitable calls. I ask how much of the donation is going to the charity. Sometimes it is only 20%!!! I tell caller that they should be ashamed of themselves and hang up on them. At least I get my irate message to them. I also say that I give directly to the charity. Why pay a middle man.
  6. It used to be every 5 years, but I'm told you don't have to renew anymore. Once your on it, your on it for life. A few calls still get by. I either tell them I'm not interested or I just hang up
