This will be my first apartment. I am currently a student. I have friends who got brokers but they had larger budgets. Do I need a broker? And if not what are the best ways to fund an apartment in new york city? Craigslist? *find not fund

1. Most landlord in NYC will use a broker. 2. 1k will not get you anything in Manhattan...maybe the Bronx, Brooklyn or Queens...but not Manhattan. If your budget is that low..you should seek a roommate situation. 3. Craigslist is good...but be very aware of scams. Never send money overseas or without seeing and meeting with the landlord first. 4. Other sites too look at are: www.newyorktimes.com www.newyorkpost.com www.newsday.com
As stated, your budget is too low for Manhattan. Be prepared to share or for a long commute. You can also try NJ.
