How should I go about subletting an apartment in New York for a few days?

I'm looking for a place to stay in New York City for a few days, so I'm checking out sublets. I've never done this kind of thing before. I'm using craigslist and getting a lot of responses from folks who seem to sublet apartments as a business. Are these legit? Any other advice?

  1. HomeAway.com has lists of condos and apartments for rent all over the world.
  2. Check out this article all about the do's and don't of subletting apartments in NYC. It is a decent read. There are a lot of things you should look out for, but in general, you can save a lot of money by subletting. Often times it is a lot of fun, too. http://cheapinthecity.com/index.php?pages_id=51&t=Sublet-Apartments-&-Extended-Stay-Hotels Good luck!
