How do you purchase an item of craigslist (non locally)?

I was looking on craigslist and found something I really want. It is a much cheaper price than other websites. The bad news is its in austin and I am in nyc. I asked if he wanted to ship it or take a COD but he said only cash up front. I really want this and I thought about paying someone to pick it up and ship it to me. How should I work this out?

You would have to send your friend a check or a money order, your friend would then have to cash it, then your friend buys the item with cash, then your friend ships the item to you. ---------------- Oh, you didn't say it was a friend - you said 'someone'. Well, if you are an incredibly trusting person, go for it. But chances are you will never see the item, and 'someone' is going to be laughing as they cash your check or money order and pocket the money.
