- No, it is not legal. New York does not allow the private ownership of non-human primates and prosimians. http://www.api4animals.org/b4a2_exotic_animals_state.php?s=ny#11-0103
- OK you would need to call your local Fish and wildlife people. They can tell you about the laws in the state and county and city. They will let you know if you need permits or what every else you would need to have one. NO many vets wont see them. I have to drive 2 hours to get to my vet. Many vets that even sees exotics WONT see any kind of primate. There are many people out there that think no one should have pet monkeys and a lot of vets wont take the chance of loosing costumers just to see a few monkeys every few months. And with the people out there you will take a lot of crap over having one. SO be ready for that. They need big cages. The bigger the better. The minimum height of a cage for capuchins, guenons, macaques and even for marmosets and tamarins is about 6 feet high (1.80m), You also need to do your reading. I read up on caps for about 2 years before I got one. Read every thing you can find on capuchins. And to let you know the one you seen on craigslist id say is not real. There are a lot of scams out there when it comes to monkeys. You cant for any reason have one brought in from out of the country. A lot of people say they can ship you one from out of the USA. They cant its a lie and they are just trying to get your money. Capuchins cost anywhere from 8000 and up. Any thing any cheaper then 6500 is not real. And most of the time you wont find one even that cheep. I paid 7500 for my male and 8000 for my girl.
