Should I just leave certain jobs off of an application?
I'm filling out a work registration thing for my local Employment Security Commission. There is a place to put your employers because basically it's a job application that they forward to potential employers who are registered with them. I haven't worked since 2005. My last job was at Walmart and it lasted for 3 days. I hated it, had transportation problems, and didn't show up. I listed it since it was my last job and put "quit" although I don't know what Walmart would say. My job before that I had worked at for a whole year, a cashier at a small grocery store. Got into a big conflict with the snotty boss and she fired me. I have a feeling she's badmouthing me, even though I know she's not supposed to, i'm sure employers talk privately amongst themselves! I emailed her all these years later to 'apologize' but haven't heard anything back. Anyway, I'm sure she'll figure out my angle once employers start calling her. Should I just leave it off the app and just keep my measly 3 day job at walmart? Sasha, employers can verify if you're telling the truth or not through your Social security number! I would never lie about working anywhere, that'll only f*ck me over in the end. I hope you now have the common sense to never, ever ever do this? Geez.

- Only being at a job for three days is going to kill you. List the job that you worked at for 1 year. If they ask the reason that you left say there was a conflict at work and you chose not to fight it (the firing). Leave off the three-days at WalMart, you'll look as if you aren't reliable and aren't loyal (which are not good in the job market). Try to get a job and stick with it for 2-3 years minimum... companies are looking for loyalty. Good luck to you.
- I would say leave them off. With the economy being so bad right now you can select a company that went out of business and said you worked there for 2yrs. Use one of youre friends as the reference and tell them to pretend they worked with you.
- only put a job on your application that you would be okay with the new employer calling, or you can leave ones that you think will give you a good recommendation. since you worked at walmart 3 days, i dont think that counts enough as something worth a recommendation.
- That's your choice. Obviously, employers like to see honesty in applicants' resumés. It shows them that you are trustworthy and are willing to accept mistakes that you made in your life. However, if you feel that future employers would look down upon having a job for 3 days or getting fired after a big fight, then I would leave it off. If I were you, I would leave off the 3-day job stint at Walmart - if they ask, you can just tell them that it never worked out - but I would leave the year-long job on the list. Especially if you think your old boss at the grocery store is badmouthing you to other employers. This is just my opinion. Obviously, it's an important matter (possibly the difference between getting and losing a job opportunity), but ultimately the decision is up to you. Hope my advice helped. Have a good one.
