What's negative / positive when it comes to a new engine in a used car?

I've been looking for a new car, and I came across this ad on craigslist... http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/1468176398.html I understand that it has close to 70k miles on everything but the engine. With a new engine in a car like this, what are the negatives and positives?

  1. This is a typical listing on that website - it smells like rotten fish !!! Why would a vehicle with only 69K miles need a rebuilt motor already - think about it....there are a lot of ripoffs on c'slist and this may very well be one of them; you are better off looking at local dealers near you and avoid any headaches. To answer your question, there is no way to know how reliable the amount of miles that are "supposed" to be on the replacement engine, especially from a private party - they will say anything to get rid of the vehicle
  2. The positives, the car wouldn't be running without the new engine. The negatives, it's an 06 Subaru with high miles and a new engine so that probably mean the previous owner ran the piss out of this car.
