How to build credit paying apartment rent?
I am a college student and I have been paying rent, all on time, and I have not developed any credit. My name is not on any utility bills for the apartment. Is there any way I can build credit paying my apartment rent?

- None of those build credit history. You need a charge card.
- No. Rent is not "credit." Neither are utility bills. A credit history comes from borrowing money and repaying it.
- You need a credit card/auto loan/personal loan/mortgage to build credit. By paying rent on time, all that is doing is building your rental history.
- Paying on time is always good and it will show up in some consumer databases, which many banks may check for big purchases such as homes etc..But "Paying rent" will not build the "Consumer Credit Rating" that we know of. The best way is to have a credit card. But another easier way will be to go to conn's electronic and purchase something that can cost you like $150. (Digital camera) Then you can pay 50% cash, then the rest is financed. also, you can get you one of these Prepaid credit card that actually report to the credit bureau
