Housing for Army Officers?
I’ve been doing a lot of research through the army’s housing website. (on-stop.army.mil). I plan on being an officer (I want to be a Physician Assistant). They have a lot of enlisted housing, but very many officer’s quarters and the once I did find go up to an O-5 (LTC). I plan on making a career out of the army and want to stay in 25-30years or longer God willing. My question is once I become an O-6 will I not be able to live on base and I’ve notice all the housing offered to officers are family. Do they offer single quarters or apartment for people who aren’t marry or their family didn’t come with them? Any other websites would be great so I can get an idea of military housing and life. Thank you

- Yes, there are Bachelor Officer Quarters for single officers. The type and availability varies by installation.
- A lot of bases don't have enough officer housing so they just give you money to rent a place off base.
- There is a limited amount of housing on base so single officers or geobachelors usually use their BAH to find a place out in town.
- Generally unless you are married or a CO of the unit on the base by the time you make O5 you should be living off base. You will get a housing allowance (BAH) that is more than enough to pay for rent or the mortgage of a place out in town. The BAH for O6 can be in some locations almost double what they offer for Jr Enlisted single personnel.
