Under Section 8 housing rules, how frequently can I live at my parents' place?
I'm moving into and renting a section 8 apartment. How frequently can I live at my parents' place while renting the section 8 apartment? I assume the housing authority wants me to live at the apartment, but there should be some leniency right?

- how would they know whether you are staying there or not? Visits to your family doesn't invalidate a lease.
- There really is no leniency with S8 housing rules. Bottom line is this: HUD is helping you pay the rent at X address. You need to be living there. Period. If you move back in with your parents, then you have vacated without notice and that is automatic termination of your S8 voucher (and renders the lease invalid). If move to your parents' for an extended period of time and the housing authority finds out about it down the line, you've committed fraud against HUD and you will be required to pay back the money that HUD paid on your behalf while you were not living at X address. That also places you in jeopardy to never be eligible for governmental housing assistance again. It's your choice...but if you want to live with your parents, then live with them and let someone who *really* needs the S8 assistance have the voucher.
