Why does Career builder want to charge me money?

I just finished registering with Career builder, posted my resume and am about to create a cover letter, although I do have my own. Why do they charge for certain services. I understand they are providing a service and it's not that I don't feel it's right to charge but it has to do with the fact that in a way it defeats the purpose as I need to first find a job, work, get paid and then contribute. It makes sense to me.

  1. Welcome to advertising. Nothing is free in America.... your valuable information and attention will be held captive to businesses trying to sell you stuff. CareerBuilder is a corporation, they don't care if you find a job they want to capture the most number of resumes possible so they can charge companies $300 - $600 a month for access to the millions of resumes on file. In addition, they make money off of resume/cover letter marketing services. They're not a charity, like I said they could care less if any of the applicants find jobs, they truly make the money off of their business clients. The fact that you're signing up enables them to charge what they do for access to your information.
