What kind of Government jobs are there?

I am 20 and currently trying to find out what I want to do with my life. I am interested in getting involved with the government in some way. However, I don't know any government jobs. I probably know jobs, I just don't realize they are government jobs. Also, what gov. jobs are in demand -or- will be in demand? thanks.

2. there are stat federal and local in many fields. right now the feds are going broke, some stats( like my stat of CA )are in deep debt so they may not be hiring. ( ca has frozen hiring and giving workers furloughs. law inforcment is almost always hiring. you don't have to be a cop, but they have many other jobs.
