What are the main differences between environmental engineering and environmental science jobs?

I have looked up job descriptions and "nature of the work" for both career fields and it is still hard for me to tell exactly how they are different. I like math and am good at it, but I don't think I'm that interested in designing mechanical things.

  1. enviromental engineering are like jobs that entail with surveying, road construction, etc. Enviromental science could go along the lines of biology, geology, etc.
  2. in environmental engineering u can work with those machines and instruments which can u study in graduation or pre graduation courses... but in environmental science u can do research in different fields of environmental science......
  3. The difference between the two careers are the core courses required for both. To obtain degree in env. engineering you must take the basic engineering courses that other engineering majors take, such as calculus 1, 2, 3, differential equations, physics (mechanics, electricity & magnetism and waves & thermodynamics), circuits, materials science, statics, etc (each school has different requirements but those are usually the basic courses for schools in the US). A degree in env. sciences is more focused on biology, geology and earth science courses, so it is not as rigorous as the engineering degree. Most of the universities only offer the env. engineering degree as a masters program and require to have a bachelors in engineering to obtain it. Other universities will take non-engineers for their env. engineering program but instead they will give you a masters degree in env. science. In terms of job description, both of them might end up doing the same types of jobs. However, due to the more technical background, the engineer might get job positions with more responsibilities and therefore, a better salary. I would recommend you to go to the website of the university you plan to attend and check out the curriculum of both degrees.
