First Apartment Questions before signing?

I've never lived in a apartment building so i have some questions for those who have.. First off- Its a 1st flr one bedroom, the apartment above is a one bedroom (occupied by a couple) I asked if they had carpet or wood floors she didnt give me a direct answer.. only that the tentants above are required to have rugs if they have wood floors. How do I get a direct anser on that? Also is there anything i should keep my eye out on in the lease agreement? The apartments have great ratings- the only problem is the parking sucks.. Any suggestions? Thanks

1. To get an answer on your rug question, I would ask to see the unit that you would be renting. Some other things to look out for: When is rent due (latest date), how much is due, what you can/cannot do. They will do a walk thru when they give you the key. Make sure you look for & have them write down every little thing (scratch on the door, indentation on the wall, stuck on paint, etc so they can't say that you did it.
